Chateau Lynch Bages 2005
This wine is the flagship red of the historic Château Lynch-Bages. Ranked as a Fifth Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, the estate’s reputation has long exceeded its official rank, with its modern prestige largely established by the Cazes family who have owned the property since 1939. The winery follows a philosophy of "lifestyle wine," balancing technical precision and modern gravity-flow vinification with a deep respect for the estate's gravel-rich terroir, producing wines renowned for their power, longevity, and Pauillac-typical intensity.
Wine Description
The 2005 vintage exhibits a dense ruby-purple or deep garnet hue, maintaining a remarkably youthful appearance even with age. The nose is complex and profound, unfurling with textbook Pauillac aromas of blackcurrant (crème de cassis), cedar, and graphite, layered with nuances of smoked tobacco, leather, and dried Provence herbs. On the full-bodied palate, the wine is concentrated and muscular, featuring a rock-solid backbone of firm, grainy tannins and a lively line of acidity that preserves a striking purity of fruit. Stylistically, it is a "dark horse" of the vintage—sexy and accessible yet possessing hidden power and substantial depth that rewards patience. Composed of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, this wine was aged for 15 months in 80% new French oak and is expected to provide enjoyment through 2065.
