Chateau Giscours 2006
Introduction
Chateau Giscours 2006 is a classified Third Growth from the Margaux appellation in Bordeaux, France. The estate traces its origins back to a 1330 deed, with the first vines planted in 1552 by Pierre de Lhomme. Under the current ownership of the Albada Jelgersma family, the winery follows a holistic winemaking philosophy that treats the vineyard as a micro-garden, emphasizing biodiversity and sustainable viticulture to preserve the natural ecosystem.
Wine Description
This 2006 vintage presents a deep ruby, plum, or garnet hue in the glass. The aromatics are expressive and complex, mingling notes of blackcurrants, cherries, and plums with subtle nuances of tobacco leaf, roasted herbs, tar, and licorice. On the palate, the wine is medium to full bodied with a supple entry, featuring a core of pure blackberry and black cherry fruit accented by dark chocolate and black pepper. Stylistically, it offers a classic Margaux elegance with well-integrated, velvety tannins and a refreshing vein of stony minerality that leads to a saline finish. This blend of approximately 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot has reached a beautiful stage of maturity and is best enjoyed through 2028.
