Cambria Pinot Noir 'Julia's Vineyard' 2010

Cambria Pinot Noir 'Julia's Vineyard' 2010

Introduction

Cambria Pinot Noir Julia's Vineyard 2010 is an expressive red wine from the Santa Maria Valley in Santa Barbara County, California. Established in 1986 by wine icon Jess Jackson and his wife Barbara Banke, Cambria Estate Winery is a family-owned estate situated on the Santa Maria Bench, where the valley floor rises to meet the foothills. The winemaking philosophy focuses on highlighting the unique terroir of the region—characterized by ancient alluvial soils and a cool, maritime climate—while emphasizing sustainable farming practices and female leadership within the estate.

Wine Description

This 100% Pinot Noir displays a dark reddish-purple colour and offers a sensory profile that is both ripe and earthy. The nose is beautifully perfumed with aromas of sweet red cherries, boysenberry pie glaze, and spices, alongside notes of mushroom, flowers, and a hint of mocha. On the palate, the wine is big and fleshy, featuring concentrated flavours of dark red and black berries, plum, and raspberry pie filling. It is well structured with evident tannins and a polished mouthfeel, balanced by a refreshing lift of acidity and a stony, fresh finish. The 2010 vintage was crafted from eight different clones—including 4, 2A, 115, and 777—sourced from one of the oldest commercial Pinot Noir plantings in the region (1974). It was aged for 8 months in French oak barrels (26% new).
