Borgogno Langhe Bompe Barbera 2023

Borgogno Langhe Bompe Barbera 2023

This structured and vertical red wine originates from Italy, specifically within the northern Piedmont region and the Langhe DOC subregion. Established in 1761, Giacomo Borgogno e Figli is one of the oldest and most historic names in the Langhe, known for supplying wine for the 1861 Italian Unification banquet. The winery's philosophy under the leadership of Andrea Farinetti focuses on a return to traditional methods, including spontaneous fermentations in cement vats and long ageing in large oak casks, while adhering to sustainable practices that earned the estate organic certification starting with the 2019 harvest.

Wine Description

Borgogno Langhe Bompè Barbera presents a ruby red colour with distinct violet nuances. The sensory profile is characterized by an intense concentration of red fruits and berries, layered with important smoky notes derived from its oak ageing. On the palate, the wine is fresh yet full flavoured, showcasing a marked salinity attributed to the white rock and chalky soils of the Bompè vineyard. It is defined by its great clarity, verticality, and juicy acidity. This 100% Barbera wine is sourced from a 9 hectare plot in Madonna di Como at altitudes of 410 to 425 metres. It undergoes fermentation in cement tanks followed by one year of ageing in large, lightly toasted French oak barrels. The wine typically reaches an ABV of approximately 14.5% and is certified organic.
