Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve 2021
This flagship red wine is produced in the Napa Valley region of California, sourced from several premium estate vineyards including the St. Helena Home Vineyard and Chabot Vineyard. Established in 1876 by brothers Jacob and Frederick Beringer, the estate is California's oldest continuously operating winery. The winemaking philosophy for the Private Reserve label, which was first created in 1977, centres on a minimalist approach to highlight the unique terroir of Napa Valley's finest vineyard lots.
Wine Description
The 2021 Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve is a black-opaque wine with a deep and alluring appearance. The sensory profile features an exuberant bouquet of fresh violets, blackberry, and blackcurrant, underpinned by complex notes of graphite, dusty cocoa, and espresso. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and super-polished, offering a lush, creamy mid-palate with flavours of black plum and warm baking spices such as clove and cedar. It is characterized by structured, velvety tannins and a bright line of fresh acidity that leads to a long, sumptuous finish. This blend is composed of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot, and 2% Malbec, with an ABV of 15.1%. While the estate vineyards are third-party certified sustainable, this wine is not certified organic.
Food Pairing
The bold structure and rich fruit profile of this Cabernet Sauvignon make it an ideal companion for hearty red meat dishes such as tenderloin steak, beef brisket, or short ribs. It also pairs excellently with roasted lamb or savoury vegetarian options like grilled portobello mushrooms and eggplant parmesan. For a cheese course, hard varieties such as aged cheddar or gouda are recommended.
Vintage Quality
The 2021 vintage in Napa Valley is regarded as superb, characterized by even ripening and lower yields that led to intense fruit flavour development. Clear skies during the harvest period allowed for ideal pick times, resulting in a refined wine that captures the purity and transparency of the growing season.
