Antinori Brunello di Montalcino 'Pian delle Vigne' 2004 - 3 Litre Bottle

Antinori Brunello di Montalcino 'Pian delle Vigne' 2004 - 3 Litre Bottle

This classic red wine originates from the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG in the Tuscany region of Italy. The Pian delle Vigne estate was acquired by the historic Antinori family in 1995, a family with a winemaking heritage dating back to 1385. The winery's philosophy is centred on 'Vigna' (the vineyard), emphasizing the unique terroir of its 65-hectare site located south of Montalcino, where the combination of clay-rich soils and a warm microclimate produces a Brunello of significant body and elegance.

Wine Description

The Antinori Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino 2004 presents a deep ruby red colour with slight garnet reflections. The sensory profile is intense and complex, featuring an aromatic bouquet of ripe red fruits, plums, and blackberries, layered with sophisticated notes of tobacco, leather, spices, and a hint of balsamic. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and supple, showcasing a broad texture with well-integrated, silky tannins and a balanced acidity. It is characterized by its remarkable structural harmony and a long, persistent finish that echoes dark chocolate and liquorice. This 100% Sangiovese has an ABV of 14% and was aged for over two years in large oak casks followed by significant refinement in the bottle.

Vintage Quality

The 2004 vintage in Montalcino is considered one of the greatest of the decade, frequently awarded a five-star rating by the local consorzio. After a relatively cool spring, a warm and consistent summer allowed for slow, even ripening of the grapes, resulting in wines with exceptional balance, vibrant acidity, and profound aging potential. Winemakers benefited from perfect harvest conditions in late September and October, producing fruit with excellent phenolic maturity and aromatic intensity.
