Annex Idle Hands Pilsner - 20 Litre Keg

Annex Idle Hands Pilsner - 20 Litre Keg

Idle Hands is the gold-standard Italian Pilsner from Calgary’s Annex Ale Project. While traditional German Pilsners are known for their sharp bitterness and Czech Pilsners for their bready richness, the Italian style pioneered by Birrificio Italiano’s Tipopils adds a modern twist: dry-hopping. Annex has mastered this sub-style, creating a beer that is technically a clean, bottom fermented lager but carries the vibrant, floral aromatics usually reserved for fine ales.

Beer Description

This Italian Pilsner pours a brilliant, crystal-clear straw-gold with a dense, mousse-like white head and fine, persistent carbonation.

Aroma: It features a strikingly bright and "pretty" nose. Unlike a standard lager, the dry-hopping provides an elegant bouquet of wildflower honey, lemon zest, and fresh-cut grass, all supported by a base of sweet, crackery pilsner malt.

Palate: On the tongue, it is light-bodied, crisp, and incredibly "snappy." It leads with a delicate, bready malt sweetness that is quickly met by a firm, noble hop bitterness. The finish is remarkably dry and clean, with the floral hop oils lingering pleasantly on the palate.

Profile: It has a highly sessionable ABV of 5.3% and a moderate bitterness of 35 IBU, offering a more aromatic and structured experience than a typical North American lager.

Technical Notes: Brewed with premium European pilsner malt and fermented cold with a neutral lager yeast. The defining characteristic is the generous dry-hop addition of Saphir and Hallertau Mittelfrüh noble hops. These varieties provide the signature "perfumey" top notes without adding the heavy resin or citrus found in New World IPAs.
