Annex Force Majeure NEIPA - 50 Litre Keg
Force Majeure is the flagship New England IPA (NEIPA) from Calgary’s Annex Ale Project. In a brewery known for its scientific precision and bold experimentation, this beer represents the "unstoppable force" of modern hop-forward brewing. It is designed to be the antithesis of the bitter, clear West Coast IPA, focusing instead on a silky mouthfeel, opaque haze, and an explosive, juice-like aromatic profile. It has become one of the most recognizable and respected hazy IPAs in the Alberta craft market.
Beer Description
This NEIPA pours a thick, opaque straw-yellow resembling pineapple juice with a soft, persistent white head and moderate carbonation.
Aroma: It features a massive, "dank" tropical bouquet. Expect intense aromas of overripe mango, passionfruit, and candied citrus peel, underpinned by a distinct resinous hop character that keeps the fruitiness from feeling one-dimensional.
Palate: On the tongue, it is full-bodied with a soft, pillowy mouthfeel. It delivers a lush wave of tropical fruit flavors; pineapple and stone fruit predominate with a creamy sweetness from the grain bill. The finish is remarkably smooth, with a low, rounded bitterness that allows the hop oils to coat the palate.
Profile: It has a robust ABV of 6.9% and a low-to-moderate perceived bitterness, hiding its strength behind its soft texture and intense fruitiness.
Technical Notes: Brewed with a heavy proportion of flaked oats and wheat to create its signature protein-rich haze and velvety body. It is aggressively double dry-hopped (DDH) with high-alpha varieties like Citra and Mosaic, utilizing a fermentation-stage hop addition to encourage "biotransformation," which unlocks deep, juice-like aromatic compounds.
