Albert Boxler Gewurztraminer Reserve 2022
This opulent white wine comes from France, specifically the Alsace region. Domaine Albert Boxler, situated above the village of Niedermorschwihr, is a benchmark for classical Alsatian expression. The Boxler family settled in Alsace in 1672, but it was not until 1946 that Albert Boxler, after returning from Montana, vinified and bottled the first vintage under the family name. Today, the estate is led by Jean Boxler, who approaches winemaking with the rigour of an artist, focusing on wines that are authentic, sincere, precise, and expressive of the terroir.
The 'Réserve' bottling is a pure expression of the Gewurztraminer grape, making up 100 per cent of its varietal composition. It typically presents a golden colour. The nose is expressive, spicy, and floral, with elegant notes that can include rosehips, ginger, lychee, ripe pink grapefruit, and soursop. On the palate, the wine is often suave, creamy, round, and rich in ripe fruit, demonstrating a curvy and tropical texture with fine, structuring bitters. The ABV is typically around 13.5 per cent to 14.0 per cent. The wine is made from certified organic estate vineyards, where some vines are more than 80 years old. It is aged for around eleven months on the lees, typically in large, neutral oak foudres or stainless steel. The optimal drinking window extends well into the future, with cellaring potential up to 2038 or longer for certain vintages.
