Akashi White Oak Japanese Whisky
Japan, Hyogo Prefecture, Akashi City. Produced at the Eigashima Distillery (formerly White Oak Distillery), this facility is one of Japan's oldest family run distilleries and obtained the nation's first whisky license in 1919. The distillery is unique for being the closest to the sea in Japan and is operated by its ninth generation of owners, who traditionally produce sake and shochu for much of the year.
Description
This blended whisky features an orange amber gold colour and a light, approachable body. The nose offers a malty and citrusy aroma with scents of black cherry, toffee, and warm bread dough. On the palate, it reveals a smooth texture with notes of vanilla, pine nuts, and mild sweetness, alongside subtle hints of spice and cherry bakewells. The finish is medium in length and balanced, leaving a soft warmth with lingering oak and dried stone fruits. ABV 40%.
Food Pairing
The coastal influence and light peat of this whisky make it a natural match for grilled seafood, sushi, and sashimi. It also pairs well with roasted poultry or savory dishes like salted caramel desserts and chocolate peanuts. For a classic Japanese experience, serve it as a highball to complement izakaya style snacks such as fried chicken or edamame.
