1921 Reposado Tequila
1921 Reposado Tequila is produced in the United States' neighbour, Mexico, specifically within the Jalisco Highlands (Los Altos). Named to commemorate the final year of the Mexican Revolution, the brand was established in 1996 with the discovery of a "lost" recipe in an old hacienda. While it was originally crafted at the legendary NOM 1079 (Agabe Tequilana), production has shifted over the years to more modern facilities, including Destilería Morales (NOM 1535) and Casa Tequilera de Arandas (NOM 1499). Despite these shifts, it remains a hallmark of highland tequila, known for its "refined" rather than "rustic" profile.
Description
This 100% Blue Weber Agave tequila is "rested" for 4 to 6 months in new American white oak barrels, which are often delicately charred to impart specific spice notes.
Appearance: A toasted honey or "medium old gold" colour with luminous transparency and elegant "tears" on the glass.
Nose: Sweet and comforting, with aromas of cooked agave, plum, and vanilla, accented by unique "pickling spice," hazelnut, and herbal hints of mint or grass.
Palate: Exceptionally smooth and creamy with a "silky" mouthfeel. It features a complex array of flavours, including walnuts, oatmeal raisin cookies, and saltwater taffy, balanced by citrus and stewed agave.
Finish: A medium-bodied exit that is notably smooth and refined, often leaving a delicate white oak aftertaste with a "whisper" of highland pepper.
Technical Details: Bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) and traditionally presented in a wax-sealed, squat square bottle adorned with a hand-painted clay medallion.
